چکیده

Accelerated bridge construction (ABC) utilizes advanced planning, new techniques and innovative detailing to expedite of bridges or rehabilitation replacement old deteriorated bridges. ABC has been widely used in low seismic regions mostly implemented the superstructure elements but much less considered for substructure such as column-base connections, especially moderate high regions. While robust connections have developed using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), sole sourcing commercial UHPC mixes is causing bidding issues limiting wide adoption connections. Thus, validating alternative solutions that use non-proprietary materials could help overcome challenges. This paper presents experimental analytical investigation structural behavior precast columns with UHPC-filled ducts column-to-footing For this study, a recently mix at University Nevada, Reno (UNR) used. Two large-scale column models, varied only reinforcement debonding, were tested UNR under combined axial cyclic lateral loading evaluate their performance. The models compared reference cast-in-place another model incorporating proprietary duct connection from previous studies. test results showed emulative conventional Analytical modeling two was also conducted shown successfully reproduce local global behaviors acceptable accuracy when bond-slip bar debonding effects are properly considered.

Seismic Design Considerations for Precast Concrete Shear Wall Connections

The performance of precast shear wall panel structures subjected to earthquakes relies on the behaviour and integrity of the connections between the panels. The current lack of knowledge on the seismic behaviour of precast wall connections limits the use of such systems in earthquake areas. This paper presents results of an extensive experimental program undertaken at the University of Manitoba...

Seismic behavior of semi-dry precast concrete connections using tapered thread couplers

The worldwide use of precast concrete frames leads to an increase in the need for the investigation of efficient precast connections, particularly in the seismic regions. The current paper provides a numerical and experimental study on a dry precast connection. Experiments were conducted to validate the finite element method in the laboratory of the University of Science and Culture. To verify ...

Seismic Design of Concrete-Filled Circular Steel Bridge Piers

The adequacy of the existing design provisions for concrete-filled steel pipes subjected to axial forces and flexure is reviewed by comparing the strengths predicted by the CAN/CSA-S16.1-M94, AISC LRFD 1994, and the Eurocode 4 1994 codes and standards against experimental data from a number of investigators. New proposed design equations are then developed, in a format compatible with North Ame...

Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Columns

There are a large number of reinforced concrete buildings in seismically active areas of the world that are not built in accordance with modern seismic design provisions such as those published by American Concrete Institution ([ACI] Committee 318, 2008). In the United States and other parts of the developed world, these buildings were constructed between 1930s to mid 1970s according to the bui...

Seismic Response of Building Structures with Sliding Non-structural Elements

Interaction between a structure under base excitation and heavy non-structural elements that it supports is significant in the seismic analysis and design of the structure. Heavy non-structural elements may slide/rock under base excitation, and this dynamic action affects the seismic behavior of the supporting structure. Hence, in this study, a numerical model was presented to describe the seis...
